Ryan Gosling Says NC-17 Rating 'Stigmatizes' 'Blue Valentine'

Actor ponders why his film received dreaded rating while racy 'Black Swan' is rated R.

Both "Black Swan" and "Blue Valentine" push the sexual envelope, but only one of those two movies was deemed racy enough to get an NC-17 rating. And "Blue Valentine" star Ryan Gosling is none too pleased that it was his film that got the dreaded rating.

"There's plenty of oral sex scenes in a lot of movies, where it's a man receiving it from a woman — and they're R-rated. Ours is reversed and somehow it's perceived as pornographic," he said in an interview posted on AceShowbiz.com. " 'Black Swan' has an oral scene between two women and that's an R rating, but ours is between a husband and his wife and that's NC-17?"

Gosling went on to say that he finds it even more unbelievable that his film has been given the rating considering what sort of sexual conduct makes it into most R-rated films. "You start to think, 'How is it possible that these movies that torture women in a sexual context can have an R rating but a husband and wife making love is inappropriate,' " he said. "A lot of people think, 'What's the big deal if it's NC-17, the kids under 17 can't see it,' but that's not true.

"What it really means is it can't play in a major theater chain and you can't have ads for the film on television," he continued. "It stigmatizes the movie in a big way. What we're really saying is not that our kids can't see this movie but nobody can see this movie unless you live in a big city and there's an art house theater."

"Black Swan" director Darren Aronofsky reacted to the rating, saying, "I've heard the 'Blue Valentine' scene is more emotionally authentic."

Regardless of the film's sexual content, "Blue Valentine" leading lady Michelle Williams is proud of her work and hopes that one day her daughter, Matilda, will understand where she was coming from when she made it. She explained, "I feel proud of this movie, and I feel like I could stand behind it when she grows up and says, 'What were you doing for those two months in Pennsylvania?' I feel like I could say, 'This is what I made.' "

Johnny Depp, Penelope Cruz Pop Up In New 'Pirates' Pics

First official 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides' photos are out.
By Eric Ditzian

After more than a three-year absence from the big screen, Captain Jack Sparrow popped up again recently. But the appearance wasn't tied to "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides." Rather, in October, Johnny Depp donned his seafaring garb and headed over to Meridian Primary School in Greenwich, England, to surprise a classroom of 9-year-olds.

The photos that surfaced online presented a rather unauthorized look at Captain Jack. Now we've got our first official peek at the fourth "Pirates" film, which is scheduled to hit theaters on May 20, 2011.

USA Today has delivered two new photos, both featuring Depp's dreadlocked pirate. In one, Depp and Penelope Cruz (who joins the franchise as a former flame and future love interest) wade through a waist-high swamp. In the other, Depp is being dragged through the Old Royal Naval College by King George II's guards.

As established toward the end of 2007's "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," Sparrow has had his eye on finding the Fountain of Youth. So, too, does the king, who's recruited Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) for the task and is determined to hire Sparrow for the quest as well. Sparrow eventually sets off to find the fabled treasure, which is how he encounters Cruz's character.

"We have our bouts in the film, but there's also this residue of what might have been. It's a kind of love/hate thing," Depp said of their onscreen relationship. "There's a little flavor of both."

Though the film is the fourth installment in the franchise, it's the first some respects: The first to be directed by someone other than Gore Verbinski ("Chicago" helmer Rob Marshall has assumed those duties), and the first to be shot and presented in 3-D. "Stranger Tides" also stakes out fresh narrative territory.

"It's a completely different beast," co-screenwriter Terry Rossio said. "The three previous films are a trilogy, with an intricate, interwoven tapestry of characters. I would call this a stand-alone type of story."

Britney Spears: A Look Back At Her Singles ... So Far

With her new album due in March, we revisit some of the pop princess' many hits.
By Jocelyn Vena

Now that Britney Spears has announced that she will be releasing a new album in March 2011, fans must be wondering what her latest musical endeavor will sound like. The as-yet-untitled effort is a follow-up to 2008's well-received Circus, which helped resurrect the singer's career after a dark time in her life. No information regarding the upcoming album has emerged, but Britney's faithful followers have watched her change up her look and sound with each single over the span of her decade-plus career, as she evolved from a bubblegum-pop princess to a sexy dance-club siren. Let's trace Spears' musical journey by taking a look at some of her most memorable tunes.

In 1999, a fresh-faced Spears released " ...Baby One More Time" (produced by Max Martin), the title track off her massive debut album. She got the conversation about her sexuality started thanks to a provocative video in which she danced around in a Catholic school uniform, as well as the song's equally provocative lyrics, where she longingly sang, "My loneliness is killing me/ I must confess, I still believe/ When I'm not with you I lose my mind/ Give me a sign/ Hit me baby one more time." It's to be noted that the song originally was intended for TLC.

In the video for "Oops! ... I Did It Again" (produced by Martin and Rami Yacoub), Spears' smash from the 2000 album of the same name, the pigtails and skirt were gone, replaced by a red catsuit. That visual, as well as the song's lyrical content, reflected Spears' evolution from naughty schoolgirl to intergalactic sex kitten, both in her video and on the song's lyrical content.

For "I'm a Slave 4 U" (produced by the Neptunes) off 2001's Britney, Spears declared her sexual independence. No longer was she just teasing about the idea that she loved the beat of dance music and how sexy it made her feel, instead she was explicitly sharing it with the world. Plus, who could forget all the sweat in that video.

In 2003, Spears teamed up with the Queen of Pop, Madonna, for "Me Against the Music" (produced by Christopher Stewart and Penelope Magnet), the sexy lead single from In the Zone. While the darker, more synth-heavy "Toxic" would become the album's defining tune, "Me Against the Music" picked up where "Slave" left off: Spears battling the demon she has inside of her that just loves to come out on the dance floor.

After a few years of not putting out any music, Spears hit the club again with 2007's "Gimme More" (produced by Danja) off the aptly titled Blackout. Between the release of In the Zone and Blackout, Spears had married, divorced and become a mother — she also had started to act erratically. The track, which relied more heavily on underground dance and electro than most of Spears' previous singles, was a highly sexualized tune about getting it on.

After the darkness of Blackout, Spears got back to her fun and frolicking old ways on the 2008 Circus single "Womanizer" (produced by the Outsyders). The track was a return to form for Spears after the lackluster response to Blackout, and it brought the discussion back around to her music and away from her sometimes topsy-turvy personal life. In the song's video, Spears gets back at a player, and really has the last laugh. The clip also features ffotage of a completely nude Britney in a steamy sauna.

In 2009, Spears shot to the top of the charts with the danceable track "Three" (produced by Martin and Shellback) off The Singles Collection. The tune was an instant smash, and featured Spears robotically singing about a ménage à trois over a club beat.

As for what's next for the singer, very little is known about her forthcoming album, although a couple of her producers have dropped some hints. Dr. Luke said that the music will "be a departure from what you've heard," while Danja called it "hard-hitting, uptempo [and] high-energy." Spears, meanwhile, is very clear about how she thinks the record is sounding. "I AM IN L-O-V-E WITH IT!" she tweeted.

Britney Spears tweeted Thursday (December 2) that her next album will drop in March. The singer, who has been working with a number of producers, including Dr. Luke and Max Martin, shared with her fans that she is "in love" with the yet-untitled project.

"I'm almost done with my new album and it will be coming out this March," she wrote. "I AM IN L-O-V-E WITH IT!"

She also thanked fans for sending birthday wishes; the singer turned 29 on Thursday. "My fans mean the world to me & waking up to all of your wishes really made me smile, so here's something that I hope will make you smile... ," she wrote. "Just wanted to thank all of you for the amazing birthday wishes you guys have been sending all day."

The singer also sarcastically responded to recent reports that her beau, Jason Trawick, has abused her. "Ok, off on a romantic weekend with Jason for my birthday. xoxo Brit," she tweeted. "PS - Star Magazine, Radar Online, Jason Alexander and the rest of you liars, Ya'll can kiss my lily white southern Louisiana a**!"

While no additional details about the album, which is a follow-up to her 2008 release have been made available, Dr. Luke did recently tease that fans may hear new music from the singer very soon. "Time to get this song out the door and out to mix," he tweeted late last month. "I think you know what artist i'm talking Bout... Right???"

"She's such an icon, I don't want to let anyone down," Dr. Luke recently said about working with Spears. "But most importantly, I want to make good music. ... I'm excited to be co-executive producing with Max Martin, the person who kind of invented Britney, and to make good music. And she's such an amazing vehicle to getting that music out to a lot of people in every country."

Beyonce's Perfume Commercial Banned From Daytime Broadcast In U.K.

Singer's spot for Heat is not to air before 7:30 p.m. due to its 'sexually provocative' imagery.
By James Dinh

Whether through her music videos or concerts, Beyoncé has always used her sex appeal as part of her pop-star allure. But is she too sexy? The U.K.'s Advertising Standards Authority thinks so. The singer's television spot for her fragrance, Heat, was recently banned from daytime rotation due to its "sexually provocative" imagery.

In a statement posted on its website, the advertising watchdog said that it has received several complaints about the spot, which was aired throughout the day during family programming and will now only be shown after 7:30 p.m. While the organization noted that the ad was unlikely to harm an older audience, it deemed the spot unsuitable for all-ages viewing. "We considered that Beyoncé's body movements and the camera's prolonged focus on shots of her dress slipping away to partially expose her breasts created a sexually provocative ad that was unsuitable to be seen by young children," the ASA said.

In the Jake Nava-directed commercial, Beyoncé plays a seductive temptress, meandering about a steamy room. As she makes her way around the area, the singer croons Little Willie John's 1956 classic "Fever."

While she remains dressed, the star's silky red dress holds close to her curves and exposes partial cleavage.

Coty UK, the company behind the fragrance, responded to the criticism, explaining that the TV spot was in line with the singer's "sexy chic style," artistically shot and consistent with many music videos.

Last year, the pop star spoke about the perfume's advertisement in an interview with WWD. "It's called Heat, so we wanted the ads to be really steamy and dewy," said the singer. "My sexiest moments are when I'm just getting out of the tub or the shower and I'm clean, so I wanted to incorporate that in the ads. The dress was this liquid-y satin. The song 'Fever' I did years ago and always loved it. [For the commercial] I got to sing it a bit more whispery, more natural."

'Glee' Britney Spears Episode Slammed By Parents Television Council

Group describes show as 'an endorsement of narcotics abuse, public masturbation, and school-sanctioned burlesque.'
By James Dinh

Last week's episode of "Glee" found Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) shouting, "It's a Britney Spears sex riot!" as she attempted to put a stop to the glee club's saucy rendition of "Toxic."

But she's not the only one who had an issue with the Spears takeover at William McKinley High School. The hit Fox show has come under fire as the Parents Television Council has deemed the "Britney/Brittany" episode the "Worst TV Show of the Week" due to the broadcast's "explicit sexual content."

A message posted on the organization's website decries the episode's "skimpy outfits" and "sultry grinds" during "I'm a Slave 4 U." And even though "Glee" castmembers show very little skin in the re-creation for the 2001 Madonna duet "Me Against the Music," the PTC said the interpretation included "plenty of girl-girl bumping and grinding."

According to the group, the tribute to the always-controversial Spears wasn't appropriate because the singer is far from a suitable role model.

"Glee earned its highest ratings ever with this Britney Spears tribute, drawing 13.3 million viewers," the message continued. "A scary thought considering that the mostly young teen/tween audience basically witnessed an endorsement of narcotics abuse, public masturbation, and school-sanctioned burlesque. But perhaps most troubling is the deification of a troubled pop star into a symbol of empowerment and self-esteem. Considering her stints in rehab, her very public breakdowns, and her questionable parenting skills, there is absolutely no way Spears should be considered a role model. The producers of the show can spare us the old song-and-dance about fallen celebs turning their lives around. What's next? Portraying Ike Turner as a reformed feminist?"

Spears knows controversy and criticism far too well. Since the beginning of her career, she's always raised eyebrows with everything from her sex-kitten public image to her sometimes-questionable parental judgment. While the pop star has played it relatively safe since her comeback, the singer did make headlines last year for her suggestive single "If U Seek Amy," the third offering from her album Circus.

50 Cent Calls Michael Jackson Collabo The '2010 Version' Of 'Thriller'

Rapper reflects on 'Monster,' revealing that the duo did not record together.
By James Dinh

In less than two weeks, Michael Jackson's first posthumous album, Michael, will hit stores and include a string of unreleased MJ tracks. The 10-song set includes a collaboration between the iconic performer and 50 Cent.

In a candid interview that appeared on MJJackson.com, 50 Cent reminiscences about how the song "Monster" came about.

"I didn't have the opportunity to physically be in Michael Jackson's presence," Fif said. "But my DJ, Whoo Kid, he had the opportunity to actually meet Mike, because he was interested in working with me and he said that he had something he wanted me to actually hear, a song he created. He thought it would be perfect for us to collaborate on and then he put me on the telephone."

While 50 has teamed up with a slew of artists in the past, he said the Jackson opportunity was unlike any other. "I don't usually get nervous, because I really don't care about a lot of the artists," he said. "But Mike is special. He's different. I don't know how to explain it."

After the shocking news of Jackson's sudden death, Fif received a call to come into the studio and perform his portion of the track. Once in the studio, the rapper worked with producer Teddy Riley (Jackson's Dangerous) on the song. "When I sat down and listened to the actual song, I was excited. I said, 'This is the 2010 version of "Thriller," ' " the rapper recalled. A snippet of the track (minus 50) reportedly leaked onto the Internet just a few days ago.

Despite not being able to actually record the track with Jackson, 50 Cent intended to make his mark on the song. "I missed an opportunity to be on a record not just with a great artist, but a legend," he lamented. "So I wanted more, and I made adjustments to my cadence so I don't sound like I sound on music that people have previously heard from me, because I'm adjusting to the production."

While not everyone has been excited about the posthumous release, Fif thinks it will be welcomed by most. "I think this album is more special," he said. "It'll be embraced different because it's the last of really great material that Mike created, so I think people will want it to go in their actual collection to go in their Michael Jackson material. It's a great example of how the art and the material will last longer than we will."

Last July, the MC told MTV News that he was inspired by a piece of artwork featuring the legendary performer for the cover of his Forever King mixtape. "When Michael Jackson passed, there was a piece of artwork that had 'King of Pop, King of Rap' with me and his pictures," he said." "That's what gave me the concept of the artwork. There's a real human skull that's got diamonds embedded in it."

Ke$ha's Cannibal: A Cheat Sheet

Singer has already scored a hit with new single 'We R Who We R.'
By Gil Kaufman

Ke$ha
Photo: Jon Kopaloff/ Getty Images

It's been a pretty phenomenal year for Ke$ha. The brash, glitter-loving club kid burst onto the scene in January with her debut album, Animal, hot on the heels of the smash debut single "Tik Tok."

In short order, she ended the chart run of Susan Boyle when Animal debuted at #1, made her first trip to the Grammy Awards, teamed up with pals 3OH!3 for another hit video with "Blah Blah Blah," dropped in on "American Idol" and hit the road with Rihanna. And that's just the first three months of the year!

But after scoring another hit with "Your Love Is My Drug" and flipping the bird to haters over their critiques of her wobbly debut on "Saturday Night Live," Ke$ha unleashed another single, "Take It Off."

For a minute, there was talk of a follow-up album that might have a country twang, not out of the question considering that she's a Nashville native and her mom penned songs for Dolly Parton and Johnny Cash. But as she said at the time, "I'm also really digging being called, like, half-jokingly, a white-girl rapper. I think it's really funny, and I'm going to ride that train for a little bit."

By August, she was already plotting her next move, telling MTV News, "I'm always writing and kind of thinking of the next step. I'm still executing this record properly onstage, but the next record is definitely on my mind, and potentially in the works soon." She described waking up in Tokyo at 4 in the morning with a brainstorm for a new song and then spending seven hours making a "horrible" beat on "Garage Band" and singing and rapping into her computer.

A short time later, it was announced that her nine-song follow-up, Cannibal, would hit stores November 22 as a "companion" album to a reissue of Animal. The disc was reported to contain eight new songs produced by heavy-hitters like Max Martin, Benny Blanco and Bangladesh and to be preceded by "We R Who We R."

"This year has been carnivorous and life-changing. I have my rowdy, gorgeous fans to thank for taking me on the ride of a lifetime," Ke$ha said in a statement. "My only goal with this record is to keep them dancing. The songs on Cannibal were made to inspire people to ignore any hate or judgment and be themselves unapologetically. It's the perfect companion to Animal and I hope you guys like it. And if you don't like it — bite me."

Though a rumored hookup with Drake was false, a confirmed track list proved to have plenty of profane and silly titles, including (ahem) "C U Next Tuesday," "Sleazy," "Blow," "The Harold Song," "Cannibal," "We R," "Crazy Beautiful Life" and "Grow a Pear," plus a remix of "Animal." After winning an MTV EMA for Best New Act, the singer also locked in her first headlining affair, the Get $leazy Tour, which is slated to kick off February 15 in Portland, Oregon.

Like most major new albums, Cannibal leaked online a week before it hit shelves, perhaps the finest proof yet that Ke$ha has truly hit the big time. Only this time, after most of the songs had hit the Web, Ke$ha just posted the damn thing herself on her website and told her fans to enjoy.

"This is my album premiere, and it's top secret, and it's really fun and it's wild," Ke$ha said in a message posted on her site. "Things are going to get crazy and a little awkward, it'll be okay. Listen to it."

She's going to have plenty of major competition on the charts this week with new releases from Kanye West, Nicki Minaj and My Chemical Romance, but something tells us Ke$ha isn't that worried.

Open the floodgates! It's Mega-Release Week, with Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Jay-Z, Ne-Yo, Ke$ha, My Chemical Romance and Lloyd Banks all dropping new albums. Stick with MTV News for everything you need to know about the brand-new music.

Britney Spears 'Glee' Episode Draws Record-Setting Ratings

Tribute episode brings in 13.3 million viewers.

Madonna's "Glee" tribute episode might have been titled "The Power of Madonna," but it was the show's tribute to Britney Spears that reigned supreme. The broadcast, which featured cameos from the pop princess herself, drew 13.3 million viewers, leading the 8 p.m. hour and posting its best-ever rating among adults 18-49.

Tuesday night's episode, appropriately titled "Britney/Brittany," had a 5.8 rating and rose 4 percent from last week's season-two premiere. The feat made history for "Glee," as it becomes the first series since NBC's "Seinfeld" in 1993 to debut as the top series of the week and then spike in ratings the following week, according to Entertainment Weekly.

The episode, which highlighted Heather Morris' character Brittany S. Pearce, revolved around the McKinley High students' fight to perform Britney Spears numbers. Through anesthesia-induced sequences, the Gleeks tapped into their inner pop star to perform renditions of the singer's hits, including " ... Baby One More Time" and "Me Against the Music."

In addition to Spears' appearances on the hit Fox show, the singer took to Twitter during the West Coast premiere to thank fans for campaigning in support of the episode. "I loved it! Thank you guys SO much for making this happen!" she tweeted. The pop princess also gave props to the many song and video re-creations, including "I'm a Slave 4 U," saying, "Slave: Oh ... My ... God ...! Those little boys are SO cute! I know how hard it is to dance with that snake! Nice job."

Spears' manager, Adam Leber, also showed his appreciation for the episode, which spawned multiple trending topics on Twitter. "So glad you guys loved the GLEE episode! The Overwhelming worldwide response has been insane.3 of the top 10 worldwide trending topics.Sick! Big big big thank you to Ryan Murphy, the incredible cast and Brit's fans for making it happen...."

After such success, it wouldn't be surprising if the rumors of a second Spears-devoted episode came true, since "Britney/Brittany" only included hits from the first few years of the singer's career.

Johnny Depp Mourns His Sexiest Man Alive Loss To Ryan Reynolds

'I feel emasculated,' the 'Tourist' actor jokes.
By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Johnny Depp
Photo: MTV News

In 2009, Johnny Deep ruled the world of hotness by being named People magazine's Sexiest Man Alive. It's an honor he also held six years prior, in 2003.

But in 2010, he no longer ruled the roost. The magazine named Ryan Reynolds this year's Sexiest Man Alive, something the "Tourist" star was a bit upset about when MTV News caught up with him last week.

"I feel emasculated," he joked about Reynolds taking over the title. "I feel like I've been beaten down like some horrible ... you know, like some pathetic harp seal. But, I mean, that's how it goes, isn't it?"

Depp shouldn't feel too upset about the whole thing: He does have a new movie with Angelina Jolie opening this month and he just wrapped up work on another "Pirates of the Caribbean" flick, so he definitely has a lot to look forward to. But he does still feel the sting of losing his title. "I think I can work my way forward, but will I try for it again? No. ... I worked so hard to gain that title."

Like Depp, onetime Sexiest Man Alive and Oscar winner George Clooney has also had some good-natured fun after Reynolds assumed the throne. Last month, the actor joked that he was fine with Reynolds being crowned Sexiest because it meant his pal didn't get the title. "I'm very happy for him," Clooney told People. "I'm also happy that it's not Brad [Pitt]."

Rufus Wainwright Talks Engagement, Opera At Carnegie Hall Show

Singer confirmed the American debut of his first opera, 'Prima Donna.'

NEW YORK — Rufus Wainwright was in a celebratory mood at Carnegie Hall on Monday night. Just hours after the New York City Opera said it would host the first American production of Wainwright's debut opera, "Prima Donna," sometime in 2012, the singer/songwriter also told the audience about his engagement to partner of five years Jörn Weisbrodt.

"I proposed over an Indian meal," Wainwright told VanityFair.com earlier. "I was very nonchalant, like, 'Maybe we should get married. Will you marry me?' "

Wainwright, who was later joined onstage by sister Martha Wainwright and her year-old son, Arcangelo, gave an intimate performance of his sixth studio album, All Days Are Nights: Songs for Lulu, which was inspired in part by his mother, the late Kate McGarrigle. His father, folk singer Loudon Wainwright III, and Weisbrodt were in the audience.

The performance marked a sort of homecoming for the Canadian-American singer, who previously took the stage at Carnegie Hall in 2006 for "Rufus Does Judy," a tribute to Judy Garland's famous 1961 live album, Judy at Carnegie Hall. In addition to performing each of Lulu's 12 tracks, as well as songs from his earlier albums Want One and Poses, Wainwright pulled from his Judy repertoire, belting out "Get Happy" and "A Foggy Day," in addition to "Alone Together," which he dedicated to his fiancé.

Wainwright also shared his excitement for the upcoming "Prima Donna" production. "It has all been a dream of mine to walk up to the fountains of Lincoln Square to see a performance of one of my works," Wainwright told the audience in trademark charming candor. "And now that's that."

The crazy adventures of photographer Basil Pao

basil pao shan shui

As I step into the room, I scan the crowd but there is no sign of a straw hat. According to Michael Palin, this is how you locate photographer Basil Pao. The hat is his trademark.

An arm shoots up from behind a waiter and I see a tall man in glasses gesturing for me to come over. It is late afternoon and Pao is sitting in the far reaches of the Foreign Correspondents' Club. The straw hat rests on a chair beside him. Pao says he isn?t wearing it because he's not allowed to in the Club.

Hong Kong-born Pao, from the island of Cheung Chau, is perhaps best known for his epic adventures with Michael Palin as his stills photographer on the BBC filming teams that made his travel shows.

Kanye West, Nicki Minaj And Ke$ha Lead Huge Album-Release Week

My Chemical Romance also moved their album to Monday to get a jump on the holidays.
By Gil Kaufman

It happens every year around this time. No, not that food coma from too much turkey — the parade of megastar albums that drops the week of Thanksgiving.

While the past two weeks have already seen the release of a number of potential blockbusters, from Taylor Swift's instant-platinum Speak Now to new albums from Susan Boyle, Kid Rock, Rihanna, Josh Groban and Rascal Flatts, Monday's bumper crop could help pump some life into the holiday season.

After Kanye West decided to stake out the off-cycle Monday as the release date for his eagerly anticipated My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, his competitors fell in line to take advantage of the holiday-week sales rush, with Nicki Minaj, My Chemical Romance and Ke$ha pushing their release dates up one day as well.

"I think Kanye will do great," said Carl Mello, director of purchasing for the 28-store Newbury Comics chain, one of the few remaining non-big-box music retailers in the nation. "He did himself a lot of favors putting up so many tracks during the year and engaging with the audience."

Between the string of G.O.O.D. Friday releases and his headline-grabbing "Runaway" mini-movie, Mello said Kanye set the album up by whetting his audience's appetite for months on end. As for Nicki's Pink Friday, even though she spent the year building up cred with a series of features and her own hit "Your Love," Mello predicted she'd do "fine" but wasn't expecting her to put up Kanye numbers. "It's nice to have a female rapper who is credible and has a chance at being quite popular," he said.

The bigger challenge might come for My Chem, whose Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys has gotten good buzz thanks to the speedy single "Na Na Na," but they have been out of stores since 2006's The Black Parade, which divided some fans.

"There's almost nothing harder to sell than something that reacted well with 13- to 14-year-olds a few years ago, but who don't necessarily make the journey with the band over the years," he said, noting the dive in popularity of similar bands such as Fall Out Boy and Good Charlotte.

And though first-week sales of Rihanna's Loud are not expected to be blockbuster, Mello also said he expects that album and Kid Rock's Born Free to be solid sellers through the end of the year, along with Kid Cudi's Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager, as well as Swift and previously released discs by Eminem and Lil Wayne.

Billboard magazine Senior Chart Manager and analyst Keith Caulfield agrees that West will probably have the biggest sales week, but said Ne-Yo could also have a solid bow with Libra Scale after months of working singles to radio. While he thinks Nicki could have a good week, Caulfield was cautious about Ke$ha's Cannibal.

"She could also do well, but because she's so track-oriented, it's hard to say," he said. "The best comparison for Nicki would seem to be Missy Elliott at her height with Under Construction, which sold 259,000 in its first week, and that's when people bought a lot of records. It's hard to gauge how an artist who, up until this point, has been very track-oriented but has an established record for a long time before releasing a proper album will do."

He pointed to fellow Young Money rapper Drake, who built his career up for nearly a year with a popular mixtape and features before releasing a full-length debut. "She's very different. She's colorful and versatile, but it's hard to pinpoint how that will translate into sales," he said, noting that "Your Love" has sold a very respectable 700,000 downloads to date.

Also in the mix are greatest-hits releases from Jay-Z and Pink; Lloyd Banks' H.F.M.2; the reissue of Nine Inch Nails' debut, Pretty Hate Machine; a Jimi Hendrix box set that Mello said is doing very well at his stores; Bruce Springsteen's The Promise archival set; the "Burlesque" soundtrack; and next Friday, a Target exclusive acoustic set from Justin Bieber.

And the hits will keep coming through the holidays, with a Christmas-themed "Glee" soundtrack on November 30 — which will also bring the latest from the Black Eyed Peas, The Beginning — followed the next week by T.I.'s No Mercy. December 14 brings the last potential blockbuster of 2010, the first posthumous album of Michael Jackson material, Michael, as well as the major-label debut of "American Idol" season-nine runner-up Crystal Bowersox, Farmer's Daughter; R. Kelly's Love Letter; and Ciara's Basic Instinct. (All release dates subject to change.)

Nicki Minaj Drives Soldiers Crazy At 'VH1 Divas'

Young Money MC performs 'Moment 4 Life,' 'Right Thru Me' and 'Roman's Revenge.'

At the "VH1 Divas Salute the Troops" Nicki Minaj paid tribute to America's soldiers the best way she knows how: get them fired up with a body-rocking performance.

Sporting a fluffy white wig, turquoise tights, towering heels and a super-snug, orange and blue mini-dress, Minaj kicked things off with "Moment 4 Life," an album cut from her chart-busting debut Pink Friday.

(Click here to see photos from "VH1 Divas Salute The Troops".)

"In this very moment, I'm king/ In this very moment, I slay Goliath with a sling," Minaj spit as she strutted across the darkly illuminated stage with her signature flirty yet street swagger. Service members hoisted camera phones in the air as the beat pumped through the massive, tricked-out aircraft hangar.

The track was a fitting way to start the performance, as the Young Money queen talks about savoring the moment, rhyming, "Put ya drinks up/ It's a celebration every time we link up. Greatness is what we on the brink of."

Then a roar erupted from the crowd of soldiers and the flicker of flashing lights picked up as the bass line from Minaj's hit "Right Thru Me" dropped. Four female dancers in glittery cropped pants and black T-shirts appeared to back up the rapper. Later, four guys joined the crew to bust a few moves. Minaj switched up the track for the soldiers slightly, by holding one of the last notes of the song as she strolled down the runway.

The Young Money lyricist, who also teamed up with Katy Perry for a playful cover of "Girls Just Want to Have Fun," closed the set on a frenzied note with her rowdy Eminem collabo "Roman's Revenge." Trading bars with the assistance of her hypeman, Minaj punched up the set with garish grimaces and struck loopy poses as she tottered about in her stilettos.

"I love you guys, thank you!" she proclaimed at the end of the set, and the soldiers sent her off with a salute of their own, chanting, "Nicki! Nicki!"

What did you think of Nicki Minaj's performance at "VH1 Divas"? Let u know in the comments!

On the third anniversary of UGK member Pimp C's death, hip-hop artists took to Twitter to prove the underground king will never be forgotten.

The Texas spitter, who passed away in 2007, was remembered by Saturday (December 4) by MCs reppin' various parts of the country, hip-hop styles and rap generations tweeted about the rap great's enduring legacy.

Lyricists like fellow southern spitters Rick Ross, Big Boi and Chamillionaire remembered Pimp with a simple "R.I.P. Pimp C" tweet. Even though he's incarcerated, T.I. made sure to dispatch his social-media team to send e-love to the fallen star.

"RIP to Pimp C from #TeamTI," read a tweet from T.I.'s account Saturday afternoon.

Wu-Tang Clan chef, Raekwon, who is, of course, familiar with the sudden loss of a dynamic partner in rhyme, wrote "R.I.P. to the legendary Pimp C!" The missive was re-tweeted by New Orleans rapper Curren$y, who also typed his own tribute.

"Young mutha f----- sweet jones pimpin the 6 got a yella bone bitch cookin D serving grits...R.I.P Pimp C," he wrote.

Talib Kweli honored Pimp with the late lyricist's bars from the Underground Kingz track "The Game Belongs to Me," writing, "you should bump that Bobby by the pound, Whitney by the key..."

David Banner not only remembered the MC on Twitter, but also Facebooked a picture of himself in the lab with Pimp cooking up some of his memorable lines. He also shared some of the UGK titan's advice, tweeting, "#PimpCsaid BANNER N----- WILL NEVER BE SATISFIED - DO YOU."

Busta Rhymes urged fans to remember Pimp, and gave a shout-out to Bun for actively pumping up his partner's contributions to the game.

"RIP AND SALUTE 2 PIMP C AND WE HONOR THE BIG HOMIE @BunBTrillOG 4 SO PROPERLY PRESERVING THE VALUE OF THE UGK BRAND AND LEGACY!!" he typed. "SALUTE!!"

Throughout the day, Bun dedicated much of his Twitter feed to commemorating the Port Arthur O.G., reminding fans to keep it real in the spirit of the always candid Pimp.

"Keep it 100 with the people you love today. Don't hold back," he wrote. "They might not wanna hear it, but theyll appreciate it later."

Share your memories of Pimp C in comments below.

'Project X' Star Miles Teller Sheds Light On Todd Phillips' Comedy

Hard details about "Project X," the Todd Phillips-godfathered comedy starring a largely unknown cast of college-age kids, have been hard to come by these past few months.
